Diving into the Community : Susan Pantle
You’d think moving from Hill City, Kansas to San Pedro would be a culture shock, but the towns are more alike than you’d think says Susan Pantle who lives in the Palisades neighborhood with husband Tom and their dogs. “When we first moved here, I remember going to the grocery store and people interacting with me, someone even told me a joke!” We had lived in other areas of California where it was not as easy to get to know people.
Susan and Tom moved to San Pedro in 2003 after finding their current home on a hill with a killer ocean view. “It checked off almost everything on our wish list.” It’s on a quiet street and has plenty of space to display their artifacts they’ve collected from their travels around the world. Once they found their dream home, they instantly felt the sense of community San Pedro offers. “As we were moving in, the neighbors came over to introduce themselves to us. We always make a point to carry on that tradition in our neighborhood and introduce ourselves to the new comers.”
Susan sells international scuba and adventure travel packages with World of Diving worldofdiving.com. They customize travel packages for individuals, drive shops, dive clubs, photo groups, honeymoons, etc. She also organizes and leads her own trips as well as promotes new locales. She offers many international destinations for scuba diving, snorkeling, adventure, and culture. “I personally like to lead trips to less traveled off the beaten track destinations since the scuba diving and culture in those places seems to be the best. It’s fun to share my favorite places with new and existing friends! My ultimate goal is to hear what customers want and deliver the best experience possible.”
When not working, Susan gives back to the community she’s become a part of by volunteering her time with Tibetan Mastiff Rescue, Inc. year round and Adopt a Family at Christmas time. She and Tom also love to go on day trip on their Harleys, go hiking with the dogs and watch sports.
While she feels fortunate to get to travel to some of the most beautiful places in the world, Susan says there’s nothing like returning home to San Pedro to her dogs and her peaceful home with the amazing ocean view.
