The beginning stage of the $150 million redevelopment of Ports O' Call is underway.  92 marina slips are being removed and workers are prepping the existing shops to tear them down.

When I was growing up, Ports O' Call was bustling with tourists and locals alike.   We all had summer jobs down there and when not working, hanging out at Orange Julius and wandering through the shops was a fun day.   Over the years the buildings started to show wear and people seemed more interested in shopping at Del Amo mall in Torrance than hanging around San Pedro.

Ports O' Call will be renamed The San Pedro Public Market and the hopes are it will attract locals and tourists again to shop, stay and learn about the coast and the harbor.

The popular San Pedro Fish Market restaurant will remain open until their new space is complete to move into.   Utro's Cafe will also remain open throughout the construction.

Completion is scheduled for 2020.
